# Improvements in the construction and maintenance of wind turbines

## Abstract

Methods are described for extending a crane tower (200) along a wind turbine, assembling a crane tower (200), shortening a crane tower (200), and constructing a wind turbine tower (100), in addition to various related apparatus. In certain examples, a crane tower (200) is supported upon the wind turbine tower (100) and extended along the wind turbine tower (100), where the crane tower (200) includes a crane (201) at or near an upper end thereof, and the wind turbine tower (100) is provided with apparatus including a lifter to elevate the crane tower (200) to create space for inserting one or more extension sections (30) at or near a crane tower base and adding them to the crane tower for extending the crane tower longitudinally along the wind turbine tower.
