The method includes steps of inserting and installing the at least one grate lifter with a grating assembly between at least one pair of surface bars of the grating assembly. The method also includes steps of moving the at least one grate lifter to a lifted position with a hoist in which at least one hook member of the at least one grate lifter engages with a surface bar and a cross member of the grating assembly. The method also includes steps of disengaging at least one tab of the at least one grate lifter from a lock bar of the grating assembly when the at least one grate lifter is in the lifted position.",
