# Dynamically stable ergonomic control for man-up lift truck

## Abstract

An operator control device for a materials-handling vehicle includes an ergonomic handle rotatably mounted on a support structure secured to the vehicle in a fixed position. The ergonomic handle can include left and right handles. Each handle comprises an upper surface contoured to ergonomically support an operator's hand. Clockwise and counter-clockwise rotation of the control device produces a steering input used to steer the vehicle. A thumb-operated switch can be arranged on the right or left handle to control lift operations and a separate thumb-operated switch can be arranged on the opposite handle to control a speed of the vehicle. Each switch can be operated without requiring the operator to move his/her hand from an operating position. Dynamic stability is provided by enabling an operator to use the handle to provide a bracing force during operation of the vehicle.
