# System and method for mitigating order picking bottlenecks

## Abstract

A system having a process for order fulfillment bottleneck mitigation that includes receiving, at a picking station (602), a first tote (160, 160G) specific to a first order with the first tote (160, 160G) containing items (401) specific to the first order and a plurality of other orders. A first quantity of items (401) required by the first order are retrieved along with a second quantity of items (404) that is the sum of the items required by the other orders. The second quantity of items (404) are stored in a storage (164) at the picking station (602). A second tote (160, 160b) is received at the first picking station (602) that has no further orders pending. A third quantity of items required by a second order is retrieved from the storage (164) and placed into the second tote (160, 160b).
