Integrity and verification
What a publication here is, as evidence: a fixed set of bytes, under a permanent identifier, at a recorded time, retrievable by anybody, with the time attested by a third party and the retrieval confirmed from outside our own infrastructure.

The seven things recorded for every publication
| Permanent identifier | OT-YYYY-NNNNNNNNN, issued once and never reused, plus a UUIDv7 for machine use. A number allocated to a submission that failed is marked void rather than recycled. |

| Publication timestamp | UTC, microsecond precision, generated by the publication infrastructure rather than taken from the submission. Servers are synchronised through multiple NTP sources and clock drift is monitored. |
| Content hashes | SHA-256 over the exact bytes of the canonical text, the Markdown, the PDF, the rendered page, every figure and the manifest. |
| Signed manifest | A JSON manifest listing every file and its hash, signed with an Ed25519 key whose public half is permanently published. |
| Trusted external timestamp | Publication hashes go into a Merkle tree; the root is timestamped by an independent RFC 3161 authority. One token covers a whole batch and each publication keeps its inclusion proof. |
| Append-only publication log | A chronological public log, one NDJSON file per day, hashed and signed when the day closes. |
| Independent retrieval | A verifier on separate infrastructure fetches the publication over the public internet and records the status, the headers and the hash it received. |
