Publication policy

Public access

Published disclosures are available to any member of the public without registration, payment, confidentiality agreement or other access restriction. No cookie and no session is required to read a publication.

Permanent publications

Every publication receives a permanent OpenTechnical publication number in the form OT-YYYY-NNNNNNNNN. A number is associated with exactly one publication forever and is never reused, including where the publication is later withdrawn from display or where the number was allocated to a submission that never completed.

Publication date

The stated publication timestamp records when the publication was released through the public OpenTechnical publication system. It is generated in UTC by the publication infrastructure and not taken from submitted metadata.

Immutability

Once released, the technical contents of a publication are not modified. Specifically, text is not edited, drawings are not replaced, titles are not changed, the PDF is not replaced, technical content is not altered, the publication date is not changed and the publication identifier is not reassigned.

Corrections, expansions and revisions are issued as new publications and may reference earlier publications. Paragraph numbering and figure numbering do not change after publication, so a citation to a specific paragraph stays valid.

Original versions

Earlier publications remain publicly accessible even when a later publication supersedes them.

Technical content

Publications may include technical descriptions, diagrams, drawings, embodiments, alternatives, examples, configurations, parameter ranges and other technical information.

Publication does not imply validation

Publication means that material has been publicly disclosed through OpenTechnical. It does not represent certification that a design has been constructed, tested, patented, commercially implemented or independently validated, unless the publication specifically provides reliable information establishing that fact.

Dates and experimental representations

Publications shall not represent hypothetical tests, simulations or proposed embodiments as completed physical experiments. Where a publication describes a simulation, a calculation or a proposed configuration, it identifies it as such.

Withdrawal

Technical publications are not deleted. Where removal from public display is legally required, the publication page is replaced by a permanent status page recording the original publication date and the fact of withdrawal, an internal evidentiary record is retained, and the identifier remains reserved.
