Abstract

A lifting device 100 has a lifting beam 120 with legs 130, 135 at each end and an attachment means, possibly hooks 110, to attach to an article, such as a manhole cover. An elongate support 140 is pivotally attached to the lifting beam and has pump piston 160 connected to the support and the beam. When the pump is activated, extending a piston shaft 164 from piston body 162, the elongate support is rotated relative to the beam thus lifting the beam. A pair of side walls 170, 175 extend from the elongate support either side of the piston body where at least one wall extends beyond the piston body, possibly reducing the chance of damage of tampering with a pressure setting set screw (168 fig.5).
