Abstract
A torque tool 2 for applying torque to a workpiece (36, Figure 4) includes a motor 30, a reaction member 8, first 10 and second 12 user input components, and a controller 32. The motor drives a rotatable output 4 to apply torque to the workpiece. The reaction member is driven to rotate by the motor and arranged to engage, in use, an object 42 separate to the tool to resist rotation of the tool. The controller is operatively coupled to each of the first and second user input components. The controller operates in a first mode in which, when the reaction member is not engaged with the object, the controller permits operation of the motor only when at least both the first and second user input components are simultaneously operated by a user. When the reaction member is engaged with the object, the controller permits operation of the motor when only the first user input component is operated. The user input components may be arranged such that they cannot both be simultaneously operated by a single hand. The controller may determine the torque applied and whether the reaction member has engaged the object based on a threshold torque.
