Abstract

The apparatus 200 for connecting a pipe connector (152, Figure 5) to a spigot 132 includes a first handle 201, a second handle 202, and linkage means 220. First and second press portions 211, 212, are coupled to each one of the two handles respectively, via the linkage means. The linkage means is arranged such that movement of the first and/or second handle toward the other handle causes relative movement of the first press portion toward the second press portion along a pressing axis (X-X, Figure 9A). The first press portion comprises a first face (231, Figure 9B) for engagement with an annular shoulder portion (137, Figure 3B) of the spigot. The second press portion comprises second, and third faces (232, 233, Figure 9A) disposed at respective spaced apart positions along the pressing axis X-X for engagement with respective faces of the pipe connector (157a, 157b, 157c, Figure 4A). Each of the first, second, and third faces are substantially perpendicular to the pressing axis X-X such that the first face remains parallel to each of the second and third faces during movement of the first press portion toward the second press portion.
